Our Approach

Immobility in Africa

What is the overall approach of the proposed program?

Our overall approach to EPIC will be guided by WHO’s Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology (GATE) principles4 and will involve achieving such overarching goals as building and strengthening capacity of disabled children, service providers and policy makers; understand and address disability-based stigma, discrimination and cultural and attitudinal barriers to inclusion; and facilitating more supportive legislations for enabling environments by engaging with civil society, non-governmental and governmental organizations.

What is the goal of the proposed program?

The main goal of the EPIC initiative is to eliminate physical immobility for every disabled child in sub-Saharan Africa. EPIC will confront lower limb disability of any type that makes children unable to walk or run – and therefore unable to participate in social and cultural activities.
